Work horse of the kitchen!
UPDATE 8/29/13 I am giving an update because of the few negative reviews posted stating that they had trouble cleaning Le Creuset. Last night I made a Potato/Kohlrabi Gratin which really turned out excellent in spite of my mishap. I don't know what I was thinking, but I filled the liquid/cheese mixture up too high in my 3.5 Qt. Braiser which caused an overflow in the oven. I started the gratin out with the lid on so that the potatoes and kohlrabi would steam in the liquid so when it bubbled over not only was the sides and bottom of the braiser a mess, but so was my lid. I took the lid off so that the dish could continue to cook and brown, however, that made the overflow on the outside of the braiser also brown and stick more to my pan. Since I was browning at 415 you can imagine the browning on the outside of the braiser. My pan had quite a crust on it inside and out and especially on the rim. I let it soak for about 15 minutes in hot water with Dawn and then starting the...
Buyer Beware
I own numerous pieces of Le Creuset cast iron cookware. I am very aware of the proper packaging and quality I have come to expect from Le Creuset. When this piece arrived it had a sticker on the Le Creuset box that said "SELLABLE." I have never seen that sticker on any of the pieces I have purchased from other retailers. I opened the box to find the lid with a large area of yellow glaze missing. I returned it for another, received the replacement item in a brown shipping box and not in a Le Creuset box. I immediately saw similar and very prominent glazing damage to the lid. Clearly Amazon is trying to sell damaged pieces ("seconds") at full price. DO NOT BUY LE CREUSET FROM AMAZON. You risk not receiving the high quality you are paying for.
Le Creuset Signature Enameled Cast-Iron 5 qt Round Braiser
Wow!!!! This is my first piece of Le Creuset cast iron cookware. It is spectacular in performance and its appearance is beautiful. Heats evenly. Cooks and braises perfectly. Deglazes beautifully. Cleans up spectacularly, truly non stick. I love it. I look forward to collecting more pieces. My only complaint is the price. Distracted by helping my children with homework, I recently forgot about something I was cooking in this braiser and burned everything in the braiser and the braiser as well. The enamel inside the braiser was black as coal. I thought I had ruined it and I was really stressed about it. Not only do I love this braiser but it cost me a fortune. I knew I couldn't scour the braiser so I let the braiser cool then filled it with water and about one cup of white vinegar. I put the burner on and let the white vinegar and water simmer for about six minutes. Then I took my wooden spatula and used it to carefully dislodge the charred remains at the bottom. It worked...
